Week 4 of the College Football Season
I have returned from my trip from Boston. It was a blast! However, I learn that the great people of Boston are not big fans of Virginia Tech. We had to try three different bars before we could find a place that would show the game. Luck would have it that the bar had some awesome buffalo chicken tenders. Which made the Virginia Tech loss manageable. Well... let’s get this started, here is what Wyld J noticed in Week 4 of college football.
Boise State 56 vs Virginia 14
I am not going to lie, this game helped with my recovery from the Hokie loss. This season has been rough for the Cavaliers. Boise State came into Charlottesville and destroyed them. It will take a miracle season for Mike London to keep his job at this point, which is sad because I did like London and hoped he could turn the program around. At this point, it's not looking great.
(20)Georgia Tech 20 vs Duke 34
Georgia Tech has been on the decline the past two weeks. Duke football has been on the upswing the past few years. Last week I spoke of my disdain for Georgia Tech so seeing Duke win does make me feel pretty good. This game does shake things up in the Coastal Division of the ACC. Georgia Tech may no longer be the favorite to win the division.
Virginia Tech 28 vs East Carolina 35
I am no sure what it is about East Carolina but for the past two years they take the wind from the Hokies sails (hehehe pirate joke). Two years in the row, Virginia Tech is coming into this game feeling positive and hopes are high for the season. And then this game comes along. I believe the most troubling thing about the game was the defensive play. They could not tackle at all. To make matters worse, the offense seemed very predictable. I would have liked to see more usage of the running backs and less putting the game on Motley's shoulders. I thought we learned this lesson when Logan Thomas was playing at QB.
My hopes are still high for the season. I admire the fight the Hokies had in this game. There was plenty of times in the game they could have given up, but Tech played tough. The game was still up for grabs late into the fourth quarter. Motley has been playing well for a backup.
I cannot say enough about the guts of this kid.
This week will be the ACC opener for Virginia Tech at home. A win this saturday will put the season back on track. GO HOKIES!
I do have one random side note. Did nobody tell the camera guy to wipe the lens of this camera during this game. The whole game we had a wonderful view of rain droplets. Come on ESPN.
(9)UCLA 56 vs (16)Arizona 30
UCLA is really impressing me this year. This game was a huge test for them and the passed it with flying colors. Led by a freshmen quarterback with one of the coolest nicknames in college football, right now this team is really gaining momentum. It’s still early but this win over Arizona looks great coming into the playoffs. Keep an eye out for UCLA as the season progresses.
There we have it! Week 4 is in the books. Another disappointing ECU loss by the Hokies...but I still have hope! The college football season keeps churning along!
This week is another fun week of football. We are getting into conference play; the meat and potatoes of the season. Virginia Tech opens their ACC season against Pitt. One of the big match ups is Clemson taking on Notre Dame in the primetime. So I should be pretty entertained this weekend. Everybody have fun and be safe! Watch out for Hurricane Joaquin all you east coasters!
