Galavant was a campy ABC TV series that ran from 2015 – 2016 and starred actors and actresses such as Joshua Sasse (No Tomorrow), Timothy Omundson (This Is Us), Mallory Jansen (Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D), Karen David (Legacies), Luke Youngblood (Glitch Techs), Vinnie Jones (Arrow) and boasted of quite a few cameos. This series is a musical satire, set in the medieval era and follows our hero Galavant on his adventures to gain revenge and search for true love with his friends the Princess Isabella (Karen David) and Sid (Luke Youngblood, ). It also follows the adventures of an evil King Richard (Timothy Omundson) ,his henchman Gareth (Vinnie Jones), and the Queen Madalena (Mallory Jansen).

In the pilot episode we see our handsome, famous hero Galavant’s dreams get dashed within the first few minutes. In his heartbreak, he loses all will to be the hero everyone loves and respects him as and becomes a broke drunk (although not as bad as Thor in Avengers: Endgame). His interest in gallantry is perked once more when our feisty Princess Isabella brings him a request he simply can’t refuse. We are then launched into one of the most nonsensical and enjoyable stories I’ve ever watched.

Since this review is spoiler free, I’ll skip any recaps and jump straight to my thoughts on Galavant as a whole. This show was pure originality with its quippy (and catchy) songs, plot twists, and well thought out characters. Each role was portrayed brilliantly, giving you just the right amount of depth without breaking the genre of comedy. And speaking of comedy, the humor was marvelously balanced throughout each episode and played so well to the characters that it felt simply natural. The fourth wall is frequently broken as well as I’m sure many other filming rules. This show just never really cared. They did what they loved, and they did an incredible job at it! I am BEYOND bummed that it was cancelled after only two seasons.

In case you haven’t guessed, this show gets 5 stars from me and I think you should go binge it on Netflix.
