Overcooked, developed by Ghost Town Games, is an up to four player cooperative cooking simulation game. As the player, you control a chef of your choice and complete various cooking challenges set before you.

Overcooked is cooperative gaming at its finest. What I mean is, if you want to test whether you and your new romantic interest will work out, this game’s got your back. Communication, timing, and working as a team has never been so crucial. You are dropped into various kitchens in various geographic locations. Each kitchen presents different obstacles to overcome as you feverishly try to chop tomatoes, cook soup, and fry burger patties. You can have anything from rats stealing your food, to moving countertops, even a giant frozen lake to maneuver around. Who doesn’t carry boiling hot pots of soup over frozen lakes?

So what’s the point? To get through all of the levels so you can beat the Giant Meatball Monster Of Doom. I don’t know if that’s really it’s name. I’m gonna just call him Ted.

Each level gives you a step by step process on how to make a particular soup, a burger, burrito, etc, and you cook said things as the various orders indicated. Once finished, you serve the plate through the serving window to gain points. Depending on how quickly you do this, you can also earn a tip! You have to gain a certain amount of points before you can move on to the next level, and you have to beat so many levels before a new round, or area,  opens up for you.

My husband and I are CONSTANTLY trying to find co-op games to play. We both love gaming, so anything we can play together will always peak our interest. Overcooked was highly frustrating, sometimes impossible, and caused us to have to apologize to each other a couple of times. Nothing a plate of cookies won’t fix. More importantly, though, it was really fun. We laughed so hard our sides hurt at times and managed to beat each level with 3 stars, which was my husband’s idea because he’s an overachiever. This game is ridiculous and completely offbeat at times, but it helped make some good inside jokes and memories. We still go back to it from time to time.

So if you’re looking for a fun game to play with friends, or your significant other, if you’re looking for something great but not super involved, or for a co-op that doesn’t involve guns, then give this game a go! Just maybe have those cookies in the waiting. Two thumbs up from me!
