Geek Sheets Second Week of September

by Steve “The Songbird of our Generation” Monnich, 6th member of the Beatles.

Welcome one and all to this week’s edition of the Geek Sheets! I hope everyone had a Marvel-ous week, and yes that is a little nod to the theme of this week’s list of geeky news bullet points.  It’s subtle, so let’s see who is savvy enough to break the intricate code I have woven.  And if Da Vinci Code level, layered puzzles aren’t your thing, maybe listening to interesting and humorous podcasts is! If it sounds like I am speaking directly into your brain right now, then I suggest subscribing to our show GGR Pirate Radio.  It is good about 80% of the time! Well, maybe more like 84%? I don’t know, I’ll have Archmaester, Starfleet Admiral and 6-time Grammy nominee Mike Lunsford recheck the numbers.  In the meantime, please enjoy the Geek Sheets (by the way, I said Marvel-ous and all 3 stories are about Marvel properties, so it was a real toughie!)

Captain Marvel images are revealed / Feige speaks to plans for more female lead films

Entertainment weekly has release a slew of images for the upcoming and highly anticipated Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson.  Fans have been blown away with the accuracy to which the costumes match the source material and how it seems like Brie Larson may have gone back in time to model for Carol Danvers creating some kind of Ms. Marvel based paradox.  With all the hype around this film swirls, naturally the topic of female lead super hero movies has resurfaced.  Kevin Feige stated that his aim is to have good films be the norm without anyone caring if the lead is male or female.  There was a slate of films in the early 2000s, such as Catwoman and Elektra, which did not perform well that have perpetuated a stereotype that fans are not interested in superhero movies with a female lead. Feige put that myth to bed claiming “my belief was always that they didn’t work not because they were female-led stories, they didn’t work because they were not particularly good movies”.  If you have seen Catwoman, it’s hard to argue that point.

Daredevil’s season 3 teaser trailer drops

Daredevil-Season-23.jpg

In what is crown jewel of the various Netflix Marvel series’, Daredevil has often explored some of the darker sides of being a superhero.  Based on the trailer that landed on YouTube, this season may be one of the heaviest yet in the arena.  Matt Murdock himself confesses “darkness only responds to darkness” and “I would rather die as the Devil, than live as Matt Murdock.”  So as you can see, some super cheery stuff is bound to be on your screens soon! With the reveal that Bullseye will be the primary antagonist for the third season of the hit show, we are all wondering which of the various story lines the creators will pull from.  Since one of the most famous stories involving Elektra has already been adapted, it will be refreshing to see a fresh avenue for DD’s most bitter rival to traverse.

Ruffalo speaks about the Avengers 4 reshoots

Many film in a variety of genres will often do some reshoots. Sometimes it will be for narrative purposes, poor screening results to an early cut or occasionally due to something from the real world impacting an element of the cast or story.  For Avengers 4, the climatic finale to the Infinity War story, September will see some reshoots that will actually complete the film, according to some quotes by Mark Ruffalo.  Many have speculated with the announcement that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has been put on indefinite hiatus, the ending of Avengers 4 must be readapted and reshot to alter where we leave the Guardians.  Of course, it is always possible that the writers, directors and creative talents who are working on the film have just modified the ending for a more fulfill conclusion.  Unfortunately we all will need to wait until May 2019 to see what becomes of all this Thanos snapping madness.

Ok folks, no need to worry as we got Professor Lunsford, MD’s final calculations of the scientific funniness of our GGR Pirate Radio podcasts. It’s a staggering 83.3333333333333333333333 percent! Math doesn’t lie, so you should probably do yourself a favor and check it out.  And if words that humans say out loud isn’t really your cup o’ tea, then we have words humans have typed on a computer that are also very humorous and informative smattered across this very website.  You can click in many places to find them, almost by accident really. I’ll stop this article now so you can begin clicking with your eyes closed until you find something! Until next time Refugees, I’m Steve Monnich and don’t be a Juicebag.
